What is the minimum scale specifications for a mine production fire assay lab. Additional features, recomended models.

Is it crazy to buy used?

Thanks.

You will need a scale that has readability of 0.001 mg. Typically these microbalances are made by Cahn, Mettler, Sartorius.

A used microbalance is not necessarily a bad idea- older Cahn microbalances are still supported and can be excellent balances. However, make sure the balance has been CLEANED, CALIBRATED, REPAIRED, and includes all the needed accessories and manuals.

You can see some examples of used Cahn balances here:

I would stay away from non-digital balances, or any that are not fully electronic (some older Mettler microbalances were hybrids that included weights and electronics).
