"Carlin" type ores

when fire assaying "Carlin" type ores what works best? such as fluxes, Mentek block etc. What are some of the problems often encountered with this type of ore?

Normally, "Carlin" type ore is one of the most straightforward types of samples to assay. The gold is finely dissemenated, which makes for homogenious samples- easy to prepare and assay.

It is a common scam to hear people suggest that this finely dissemenated will "burn up in the stack", or evaporate, or not collect for some other reason, or have some other problem. Be skeptical of those claims.

The assay flux used for these types of samples would be developed the same way as other samples, by the rock type. I would suggest reviewing the section in Shepard & Dietrich which deals with developing the proper flux:
